We are seeking advertisements for our

Cam Jam Bantam Lacrosse Jamboree Program.

The town of Burlington, Connecticut has a youth lacrosse program for boys and girls in grades three through eight.  This program was started over seven years ago and has grown from just a handful of children to a program that today has bantam, junior and senior programs for both boys and girls.  This year, we have 80 boys and 65 girls on our teams.

Unfortunately, we started our season with the news that one of our players, Cam Greenwood, is battling cancer. He is a seventh grader in Burlington and has been a member of our lacrosse program since bantams.

Cam is an outstanding lacrosse player and, much more importantly, just a super all around kid. As he was getting ready for his first year at seniors, he was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer that usually affects kids between 11 and 19.

Cam is fighting hard with the support of his town and his lacrosse family. We have a Blue Number 2 “Cam” decal on the helmets of every Burlington team this season, both at the youth and HS levels.   In addition, the Sacred Heart University and the University of Hartford men’s teams wear decals in support of Cam.

To help defray the cost of Cam’s care, our lacrosse program is planning a boys and girls bantam jamboree to be held on Sunday June 13th at Malerbo Field in Burlington. Those of you familiar with the history of our great game know that one of the many reasons the Native Americans gathered to play was to heal the sick.

ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE ADVERTISMENTS - 100% will go directly to the Cam Greenwood Fund.  You can follow Cam’s journey by visiting www.caringbridge.org and entering camerongreenwood (no spaces) in the ‘visit a website’ box.  Please be sure to sign Cam’s guestbook when you visit.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me at kondej@sbcglobal.net or call (860)675-3830.

We realize that there is only a very little time left between today and the Cam Jam so we would appreciate anything you could do to support the cause of this young athlete.

Thank you in advance for your support of this much needed cause!

“KICKIN’ IT TOGETHER”

To know Har-Bur Middle School 7th grader Cameron Greenwood, one would say this slogan definitely suits him.

Cameron was diagnosed in mid-January 2010, with a very aggressive bone tumor called Ewing’s Sarcoma.  This disease grows in large bones of young people between the ages of 11 and 19 primarily.  Bone cancer makes up just one percent of all childhood cancers.  Fortunately, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford has a specialist for this particular cancer so parents Scott and Danielle Greenwood do not have to move their only child far from home to receive his treatments.

Soccer and Lacrosse are Cameron’s favorite sports and he plays them with passion.  He plays hard no matter the score and “quit” is not a word in his vocabulary.  He is a leader on his travel soccer team, coached by his father, and has formed a brotherhood with his teammates.  When Cam started to favor his left hip last fall, everyone thought it must have been muscle or ligament strain.  No one could imagine the real cause of his discomfort.  With a negative x-ray and the pain worsening, Scott and Danielle took their son for an MRI.  A parent’s worst fears were becoming reality for them.  An aggressive tumor was growing on Cameron’s pelvic bone and a biopsy revealed its malignancy.  Cameron started his treatments immediately and life has not been the same since.

More information can be found on the website www.kickinittogether.org  look Cameron’s journal.

A little more about Cam. . .

Cameron has the biggest blue eyes you have ever seen and his heart is of the same proportion.  This last Christmas, just prior to his diagnosis, he handed a Christmas list to his mom and dad and among the typical requests for the latest electronic devices, Cam also asked for $100 to donate to the charity of his choice.  When his mom asked what charity he had in mind, he told her wanted to donate to cancer research.

They made good on the donation.  Let’s pay it forward.

Thank you for your support and generosity.

I Give Blood. Will you?Every minute of every day, someone needs blood. That blood can only come from a volunteer donor, a person like you who makes the choice to donate. There is no substitute for your donation.

When you make a blood donation, you join a very select group. Currently only 3 out of every 100 people in America donate blood.

From its beginning, the American Red Cross has formed a community of service, of generous, strong and decent people bound by beliefs beyond themselves. The American Red Cross blood donor embodies this principle. Please join us in our mission to maintain a safe and stable blood supply by making your appointment to donate blood today.

To find out where you can donate, visit www.redcrossblood.org/ or call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543).

Spring 2010 Schedule coming soon!

When : Every Sunday morning from 9 to 10, come any or every week.

Where : A different route each week, in the various towns in Litchfield County

Who : Anyone who enjoys spending time with their dog.  Even if you don't have a dog, you could “borrow” one from a neighbor who can't get out, or the Little Guild may have extras to share for the hour! Or if you want to join the gang and enjoy the fun, just come along for the exercise.

Why : Many reasons, here are a few:

•  Our country dogs often need socialization. This is an opportunity for your dog to have experience among others in a controlled on-leash setting. You'll be pleased to see how your dog will improve his dog-greeting skills as he gets used to these meetings. (All dogs must be leashed).

•  New sights, smells, and sounds, are a delight to all dogs, especially if you can't get out daily for a vigorous walk.

•  A good outing on Sunday is something to look forward to all week, and leaves you feeling happier when leaving your dog home on Monday morning.

•  We will be exploring beautiful places in our county that you may not even know about yourself, places you'll want to return to. Meet other dog-lovers, make new friends.

•  It's free !
